Auld Rare Brandy
kr333.00
This brandy is made at a distillery on the slopes of the South Carpathians just outside Transylvania in the small town of Bucov. The distillery belongs to Alexandrion Grup, which is the largest producer of alcoholic beverages in Romania.
Auld Rare Brandy is made from the three Romanian grape varieties Zghihara de Husi, Crâmposie selectionata and Iordana.
In particular, Zghihara de Husi is excellently suitable for distilling because it produces a neutral and low-alcohol wine with high acidity, just like the ugni blanc grape used for cognac.
In the same way as in Cognac, the wine is distilled twice before being bottled. The casks are made from a local oak that grows in the Carpathians and hold 400 liters (that is, slightly larger than a normal cognac cask). It is stored between 7-12 years and the storage takes place in cool cellars.
The brandy has a pleasing aroma of popcorn and butter, white pepper and cedar wood. The scent of orange peel and a hint of tar are also evident. The citrus is also found in the taste, alongside the oak character and a faint hint of cherry liqueur.
Suitable as an avec for coffee, chocolate, vanilla ice cream and/or for your medium-bodied cigar.
